5 out of 5 stars:
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie is sad, funny and it keeps you interested. The story is mostly about a nerdy 14 year old boy named Junior that was growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation, when he decides to move to a school with all white kids. He felt sad that he was the only Indian boy there, that he changed his appearance to look like the white kids in the school, even though he didn’t have any money. When he was in the Indian reservation he was not liked by anybody. He was poor and always wore old clothes.
He changed to impress a girl, Penelope, that he fell in love with. I felt like it was not a good idea to change for a girl. She should like him for who he is not for who he’s pretending to be. It’s sad because he didn’t have any money. He had a dog that was his best friend. When his dog became sick he didn’t have any money to take him to the veterinarian, so his dad shot the dog so he wouldn’t be in pain anymore. That was a sad part because his dog was his best friend. I would be so sad if my best friend died even if it was a dog. One part of the book that was really funny was that he beat up this guy in his new school, then the next day he went back to the school they became friends. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is a sad, funny book that keeps my attention.
